The Assessment directed by Fleur Fortune starring Himesh Patel, Alicia Vikander, and Elizabeth Olsen is a Sci-Fi drama set in a not so distant future. The plot revolves around a couple trying for reproduction which involves a 7 day assessment trial with the Assessor. The Assessor, Virginia played by Alicia is the standout of this film, and the way Alicia carries that character deserves an ovation. The film starts off as a slow burn and later evens out it’s pacing. We really start to feel the psychological dread once the assessor begins imposing her presence on every corner of their household. All the main actors and the supporting cast has done their job well.
I personally like the concept of this film and how it is stretched out into a psychological drama with dread-filled moments. I also liked the many layers of Assessor, the character.
As for the negatives, It really tests your patience until the very moment the Assessor comes into the picture. Apart from that, I didn’t feel anything quite noticeable.
Overall, The Assessment is worth checking out if you can tolerate its slow first half. And if you love character-driven psychological dramas with dread-filled moments, this might be for you.
