Directed by Vikram K. Kumar, Dhootha becomes an edge-of-the-seat experience once things start kicking in. The plot is closely tied with subjects like domino effect and corrupt journalism. The series gives off a distinct Final Destination-like feeling. I was genuinely awe-stricken by the script, I mean – there’s clearly a lot of work involved and you can see it as well. Even though I have respect to Naga Chaitanya’s courage to portray such a layered and morally grey character, he does seem to be struggling a bit sometimes specifically due to his monotonous performance all throughout. Parvathy Thiruvothu, Priya Bhavani Shankar, Prachi Desai has all done their parts neatly.
Technically, the camerawork is good. I loved the slow mo rain shots – even though feels out of the box was aesthetic. And I loved how monsoon is really like a character itself in this series – it has an integral part and adds to the tone of the series. Editing has done a fair work in bridging sequences.
But, despite all of this, the climax is kinda cluttered and feels dysfunctional. I personally didn’t like the ending episode of this series. The rest keeps us hooked. And another thing is that – the series relies on many stereotypical supernatural thriller tropes as well.
So, if you can cope with Naga Chaitanya’s monotonous performance and can feel less betrayed by the climax and can forgive some logical mistakes. This is an awesome thriller experience. If you love Final Destination styled titles, you might like this too!
