Imagine yourself as a Sister from a Christian Missionary from the Mormon faith. You and another sister from the same missionary embark on a journey to Mr. Reed’s house, upon the request of more information by him. But then only do you realize all of this was a gimmick. Firstly, I want to appreciate Hugh Grant for his most unconventional and spine – chilling performance. Sophie Thatcher and Chloe East also seem to understand the assignment and does their part neatly. Most of the movie takes place in the underground, but we do not miss out on what is happening. Kudos to the Lighting department for that. The movie develops it’s horror through it’s very characters and Reed’s theories over the origin of religions and the purpose it serves.
And I found the philosophy to be striking, even though our villain turns out to be a narcissistic – psychopath. The Absence of a creature and unnecessary jump scares is another thing I want to laud this movie for.
Despite all of this, I personally couldn’t comprehend the villain’s motivation behind his actions and what it all leads to. Maybe it was left off for us to pick up and think about! I personally thought, if he didn’t take time to explain himself we would have gotten an even more refined version.
