Hokum is a new addition to the folklore horror genre,let’s see what it packs.
Hokum starts with a troubled writer visiting a hotel for disposing the ashes of his parents. What unravels next is a somewhat haunting tale of betrayal and a fictional Irish Folklore. Performances are solid and convincing especially the lead – Adam Scott playing Ohm Bauman. The camerawork and DOP is good. The narrative is generally well-structured, although it’s pacing can feel uneven in places. The only thing I despise about this movie is it resorting to cliche`d jump scares but the movie makes up for it using atmospheric horror.
Overall, Hokum is an above average film very much enjoyable by folklore – horror admirers.
